Petroglyphs in the Petrified Forest

Not only nature left its mark on this place, people did too. We visited two places famous for their aboundance of ancient rock carvings.

Soon, there will be a detailed report of this amazing place, but for now, enjoy the pictures.

Overlooking the floodplain of the Puerco River stand the remains of a publo
of approximately 100 rooms, which was inhabited between 1250 and 1380.

Over the centuries, some of the carvings received modern interpretations, which don't have anything to do with their original meaning.
Most popular are the "Stork delivering a baby" and the "Smiley-Face."

The petroglyphs at Puerco Pueblo are vastly outnumbered by a rock just a mile south, called "Newspaper Rock." This rock
is covered with over 650 images. The oldest are over 2,000 years old, the youngest ones were carved 650 years ago.
