The upper part of the fortress is almost entirely devoted to the memory of
Martin Luther's stay here in 1530. Luther was banned from attending the Imperial
Diet of Augsburg and corresponded per letter with his followers. The fortres' chapel is named after the Reformer and an equestrian statue hails Luther as the deliverer of the light of faith. |

In 2015, Coburg received the honorary title of European City of the Reformation due to Luther's work done at the Veste. |
