Vacation 2016

August 28, Coburg

Veste Coburg, Part II

Coburg Luther Rose

Martin Luther Chapel.
The upper part of the fortress is almost entirely devoted to the memory of Martin Luther's stay here in 1530. Luther was banned from attending the Imperial Diet of Augsburg and corresponded per letter with his followers.

The fortres' chapel is named after the Reformer and an equestrian statue hails Luther as the deliverer of the light of faith.

In 2015, Coburg received the honorary title of European City of the Reformation due to Luther's work done at the Veste.
From the top of the fortress, one can enjoy a great view over Coburg.

Another great view at the fortress and at the countryside is from the Bear Bastion on the western side of the castle.

On the way back, we took the scenic route.
And here, in the last 1000 years, nothing has changed.

Or click the right turn signal to move on to the city of Bamberg.
