There are two groves of Bristlecone Pines in the White Mountains. They are 12 miles apart and are connected by an unpaved road.

In order to get to Patriarch Grove, we had to brave the elements and take on the gravel road. Absolutely untouched nature and magnificent views made this short drive an unforgettable experience.
Here is Judy's tough little car at this unforgiving road. And above and below are some of the many breathtaking views along the road.
Most of the Bristlecone Pines are in the two groves, but there were some of them along the road too.
After a slow and careful 1-hour journey, we arrived at Patriarch Grove. Not everybody was so lucky. We spotted this car with a spare wheel front left and a another missing wheel rear right at the visitors center.

When you plan to visit this place, please keep in mind that this really wilderness. It is at 11,000 feet elevation, it is cold, it is bone dry and there is absolutely no cell phone reception. Please take all the necessary precautions!
