Welcome to the world of Kharne! This is, where Quest takes place. Like in most games, a player controls a party of adventurers, seeking glory, gold, magic and experience.

Quest started out as a play by mail game in 1991. For a while was one of the most popular role games in the world, played by thousands of people in many languages, offered by game providers in Australia, Finland, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom and the USA.

Today, the only remaining provider is KJC Games in the UK. KJC Games has been running Quest for a quarter of a century, and some of us have played almost that long.

At the turn of the Millennium, the second age of Quest, played by email, evolved. This version, still relying on players submitting coded game turns and receiving moderated game reports, has survived all modern game developments and is still played today by a handful of enthusiasts.
Unfortunately, the development of a "Third Age" of Quest has been canceled, but for the diehards, there are still several worlds in which the Second Age can be played.

KJC’s latest addition to the game was Quest Unlimited, which allows players to submit an infinite number of game turns for a weekly or monthly flat rate. This allows players to develop a group far beyond anything possible in the previous versions.

Almost everything you encounter in Kharne comes with an official description, called blurb. The Kharne Encyclopedia strives to become the most comprehensive collection of these blurbs.

Unlike the modern, fancy animated games, most of the "action" in Quest takes place in a player’s head. For that reason, we have developed this Encyclopedia as a graphic illustration and enhancement of the rather dry computer generated printouts.

These pages will not teach you how to play the game, but all you have to do is to start a party in Quest Unlimited (Game 20). Our alliance usually contacts every new player and helps out with advise, if wanted.

Until then, may the Gods of Kharne protect you and may you enjoy browsing our Encyclopedia.

Everything on these pages is related only to the fantasy game world of Quest and has no relations whatsoever to the real world and real people, places or events!
