COLD IRON Many smelting pots produce iron, but only a few of the best city smiths are able to burn off all the unwanted impurities that make common iron brittle. Weapons forged from cold iron tend to keep their edge a little longer and are priced above the run of the mill swords and daggers. So far, the following Cold Iron items have been discovered:

ETCHED The water mark is a sign of quality in paper, so too is etching in metal. The smiths use waters of fire to eat the metal just enough to leave a slight mark. For the most part, the etched mark will be the crest of the guild, but a few have also the name of the sword or the owner. Etching is never carried out on inferior weapons as the waters of fire are only available from reputable alchemists at no small price. So far, the following Etched items have been discovered:

GREAT Most pole arms have a length of around ten feet. After this the weapon becomes a little unwieldy. Great weapons have been designed with a better balance to counter their extraordinary length. Able to strike with much more force than other weapons in their class, the extra length can be the difference between life and death. So far, the following Great items have been discovered:

HEAVY Working on the simple principle that something big moving fast will hurt, making it heavier will mean that it will hurt even more. These weapons sometimes have lead set in wells to substantially increase the weight so that a solid thump with one of these weapons will leave a lasting mark. So far, the following Heavy items have been discovered:

HONED Lovingly cared for, the edge of this weapon is keen and has been maintained by the previous owner. Every small nick has been polished out leaving an edge you could shave with. So far, the following Honed items have been discovered:

HORN While yew and willow are the most common woods for bows, strips of carefully prepared horn enable a bowyer to produce bows of comparable strength and durability. The practice is generally confined to regions where vegetation is minimal. So far, the following Horn items have been discovered:

HUNTER's Hunter's equipment is light and durable. It is able to withstand days in the rain as well as blistering sun. The materials are treated in similar ways to lesser materials, but the process is extended. This allows the crafter to select the best materials as lesser ones become corrupted and can be discarded, while the best are markedly improved. So far, the following Hunter's items have been discovered:
There are also HUNTER's+3 items. |

HUNTING The hunting crossbow is different to a normal one as it is the only one with a safety catch allowing it to be carried strung while hunting. The steel used to span it is of a high quality to prevent it from over stretching while strung. Even so, it is unwise to leave it loaded for extended periods. So far, the following Hunting items have been discovered:

IRON BOUND A simple shield of wood often has a few strips of iron hammered to it. This makes it more of a defence against chopping weapons such as axes. Without these the shield will quickly be riven by the heavy blows. So far, the following Iron Bound items have been discovered:

JET BLACK Only the best oils are used to stain a bow. Using wrong oils can have disastrous effects on its ability to repel damaging moisture. These weapons have been treated with one of the only ones that actually preserve the bow allowing them to be transported to the ends of the world without the possibility of infestation. The result of treating with this oil is a bow that is a matt black, obviously not to everybody's taste. So far, the following Jet Black items have been discovered:

METAL SHOD Adding a few chunks of metal to either end of the staff gives it a longer life span on the open road, not to mention the extra punch it lands on a would-be thief. The metal is generally brass and slots over the ends. Either a large thread is used to hold it in place or a few studs are hammered in, either way, the ends often last longer than the staff. So far, the following Metal Shod items have been discovered:

NAIL STUDDED The length of the staff is hammered with small iron studs. These give a better grip but also protect the staff from being cut although they do make it a little weaker. The extra grip is useful in combat allowing the staff to be wielded more effectively. So far, the following Nail Studded items have been discovered:

OAK A stout oak staff is a must for all those traveling long distances by foot. It is a good deterrent to thieves while being an aid to walking up and down hills. The oak is often taken from a large branch and cut down to the desired size. It is much heavier than typical staffs of the same size, but delivers a meatier whack when it connects. So far, the following Oak items have been discovered:

OILED Water seeping into the bow is a constant hazard that pains all archers. Coverings of waxed and greased hides are often used protect bows especially when it is raining. Another method of water protection is the use of special oils. These are slowly rubbed into the young wood, expelling natural water and preventing new water from entering. The effects of water in the bow are quickly seen as the bow warps and weakens. So far, the following Oiled items have been discovered:

OIL QUENCHED Water quenching is the typical method of cooling newly forged weapons and armour. Oil quenching is a more advanced technique that is not universally popular due to some unfortunate accidents by apprentices. The result is a black protective film that helps to prevent rust. The result can look pretty spectacular, matt black armour or a midnight black weapon with a thin silver edge. So far, the following Oil Quenched items have been discovered:

PADDED Light pads along the shoulders and upper arms allows the armour to cushion the blow thus preventing the wearer from being overly bruised. These cannot be incorporated into any armour as the armour has to be slightly larger in certain areas to accommodate the under padding. So far, the following Padded items have been discovered:

POLISHED Many low grade weapons are easily distinguishable by the dull appearance showing them for their inferior quality metals. This weapon has been polished to a high degree glinting like pure mountain streams. This a mark of a superior metal. So far, the following Polished items have been discovered:

POWERFUL While there is little limit on the strength of a bow, the problem comes when the archer attempts to string or span them. These bows tend to be at the physical limit for their class, delivering substantially more damage than the more common version. So far, the following Powerful items have been discovered:

QUILTED Stitches hold in place many layers. While individually these are not as tough as a normal single layered armour, bound together layers incorporate cloth weaved at different angles which overall makes the armour slightly superior. Between the layers are small gaps that are stuffed with wool to add a little extra protection. So far, the following Quilted items have been discovered:

RECURVE The addition of a curve at the top and the bottom of the bow enables the bow to be slightly shorter without losing any of the strength. As the process is a little harder to master than crafting of a typical bow, these bows tend to be better by default. So far, the following Recurve items have been discovered:

SEASONED (Missile Weapons) While young wood is often used for a quick sale, the more traditional bowyer will take time to slowly bend the new wood over a year into the desired shape. The process can take over a year, but the bow produced is superior to the more common varieties and the arrows fired from them are truer. There are also Seasoned Melee Weapons +2. So far, the following Seasoned Missile Weapons have been discovered:
SEASONED HAFTED A stout handle is important in the strength of the weapon. Beware green wood as an untimely parry can leave the wielder with little more than a very short club. These weapons are aged in dry conditions and treated with waxes to ensure strength and resilience without extra weight. So far, the following Seasoned Hafted items have been discovered:
SHARP The smith has produced a blade that is exceptionally thin with an exaggerated tapered end. This leads to them often being nicknamed needles. The wielder benefits from being able to pierce as well as slash. The advantage gained by the sharp point in this case outweighs the reduced slashing capability. So far, the following Sharp items have been discovered:

SHINY Some impurities in the iron result in a metal that can be highly polished. These weapons reflect light remarkably well and in the right conditions reputedly dazzle the opponent. That the wielder has such an obviously superior weapon may just give the edge. So far, the following Shiny items have been discovered:

SOFTENED HIDE Special treatment of the hide keeps it flexible. A cheaper way to soften the sling leather is to chew it. Not pleasant if the leather has not been cured. Softer leather allows the stone to perfectly keep its balance resulting in a truer shot. So far, the following Softened Hide items have been discovered: Sling+1 |

SPIKED While a flat head is very good at denting, adding a short spike to the centre or as an alternate head allows the wielder to not only smash bones but pierce armour opening wounds in spite of protection. So far, the following Spiked items have been discovered:

STEEL Steel is a difficult metal to make and the various recipes that exist are guarded by alchemists and smithy guilds alike. The substance is superior to common iron as it is not prone to rust. It is also less brittle than common pig iron and in the hands of a talented smith has even been used in the production of bows, although it is more common in crossbows. So far, the following Steel items have been discovered:

STRENGTHENED The addition of either metal strips in the centre or at the ends of the bow provide a little extra strength to the bow but as the strips are usually only bound, are easy to produce unlike the superior composite versions. So far, the following Strengthened items have been discovered:

TOUGHENED HIDE Soaking the leather in tanning solutions such as urine hardens the leather. This allows the sling to be thinner so that it can be swung faster. The result is that the stone hurled from this sling strikes with a much faster speed causing more damage. So far, the following Toughened Hide items have been discovered:

TREATED Bows Seasoning of the wood can be shortened by the addition of special chemicals. In some cases these can make the wood brittle and prone to crack with time. The vast majority however, achieve the strength of a true seasoned weapon in only the fraction of the time. So far, the following Treated items have been discovered:

VETERAN Many young warriors leave home in possession of their father's weapon. While the weapons were not originally considered special, they have survived numerous fights intact, hence have proved to be better than the run of the mill. That many are available for purchase shows that the luck of the item is often greater than the luck of the wielder. So far, the following Veteran items have been discovered:

WOVEN FIBRE The use of tough materials that have little stretch makes a superior sling. Sail cloth is generally used for this purpose, but it is substantially more expensive than a piece of rabbit skin, the traditional material. So far, the following Woven Fibre items have been discovered:

WOVEN HAIR Horse tails make excellent slings if they are spun carefully woven into a cup shape. The hair repels water much more effectively than common hides so performs better in wet weather. So far, the following Woven Hair items have been discovered:
