THE PANTHEON OF KHARNE |
Miracles |
All but a small minority of the population of Kharne spread their worship amongst all of the gods. Those who restrict their worship to a single god, or goddess, are generally regarded as fanatics. Even most adventurer groups will worship several gods rather than just one. |

The temples found in the towns and cities of Kharne are open to the general public at all times but most have inner sanctums, accessible only to the truly devout followers of the temple's god. Attempts by groups of neutral or opposing alignment to enter these areas will be strongly opposed. In the event of violence, or death resulting from a break in, town militia and courts will invariably take sides with the temple. |
Groups of extreme alignment may find themselves forbidden to enter even the public areas of a temple but this is not common. In addition to the town temples there are rumored to be special shrines dedicated to each of the gods. The great relics of the different religions will often be located in these shrines. The locations of the shrines are closely guarded secrets and death is said to be the reward for any who betray the secret of a shrines location. |

Baldor is one of the more powerful gods and is of good alignment. He looks with favour upon those who protect the weak from harm, and upon those who oppose the evil followers
of Fleyshur and Ythcal.

Although somewhat less influential than Baldor, the goddess Garthrana is far more greatly feared by the followers of evil. Garthrana's followers are charged with the destruction of evil in whatever form and wherever it is found. Garthrana aids her followers by granting them the use of combat orientated miracles to help them in their battles. |
As Baldor and Sundonak are both close to Garthrana in terms of alignment, her followers can often use the miracles sponsored by these gods. The temples of Garthrana teach that certain
actions and attitudes are necessary for any priest or party wishing to gain her favour. Firstly, all parties hoping to align themselves with Garthrana should pray to her regularly by
issuing the order 'P 2'. They are also encouraged to make donations at her temples using the 'G' order.
Attacking the followers of the evil gods will always gain favour. Using an attitude of anything but '3' against evil groups will cause displeasure and failure to attack evil when there is a good chance of victory is even worse. Theft of any kind will earn nothing but Garthrana's contempt for the party concerned.

Sundonak is probably one of the most powerful gods, and certainly the most warlike. His priests teach that Sundonak worshippers who die in battle will go to a
warriors' heaven. As a result the warriors committed to the Sundonak sect are usually fearless in battle. The miracles sponsored by Sundonak are all of use in combat and this helps
his followers to stay alive a little longer than would otherwise be possible. Even so, the reckless nature of their faith does considerably reduce the life expectancy of Sundonak
worshippers.

Fleyshur's adopted title leaves no doubt as to his outlook on life. Wanton destruction of property, life and civilisation itself are meat and drink to Fleyshur.
Earthly power is the reward promised to his followers for their support for this evil crusade. The miracles granted by Fleyshur are sure to bring despair and misfortune to
Fleyshur's foes. His priests are also able to use the powers sponsored by Ythcal and Sundonak, and the combination of evil and outright violence is enough to strike fear into all but
the bravest, or most foolish, of opponents.

Of the evil gods, Ythcal is the most powerful but he cares nothing for the affairs of the world except when they provide an opportunity to increase his own strength. As he
feeds upon the souls of those sacrificed in his name he is greatly feared throughout the world. Ythcal grants his priests miracles of death in exchange for their absolute loyalty.
Even his priests fear him for they know that should they fail him in any way their own lives will be forfeit. His priests can also use the powers sponsored by the other evil gods,
Fleyshur and Molwanh.

Molwanh derives the bulk of her strength from the power of the natural world and as a result is a militant conservationist. Her dislike of those who disrupt the normal flow of life borders on hatred and the pollution and damage caused by the cities and towns of the civilised world offend her. Most priests who pray to her do so in an attempt at appeasement but there are a few who support her views and do what they can to prevent the growth of cities and towns. These few are rewarded with special miracles which enable them to control some of the forces of nature. They also have access to the powers of Ythcal and Novala who share some of Molwanh's views. |
Molwanh expects regular prayer from her followers and donations at her temples and shrines are often made by the most faithful. Her followers should protect the ways of nature at all
times. Killing animals for food is acceptable. Killing them to sell their furs, or for a bounty on their heads is definitely not. Molwanh will not be pleased by any actions which
further the cause of civilisation. The building of roads and bridges or the construction of new towns angers her greatly but the mass destruction of forest land for timber is probably
the worst crime in her eyes.

Of all the gods, Novala's outlook on life is probably closest to that of ordinary mortals. Her main goal is the seeking of pleasure and she constantly seeks new ways
to amuse herself. Her power is believed to derive from the emotions and passions of mortals, possibly one of the reasons she is said to be the patron goddess of love.
|
Regular prayer and donation are sure ways to Novala's
favour but she also expects to be amused. Acts of trickery and cunning are good ways to gain her attention and she keeps a special look out for the welfare of thieves. She is
displeased by acts of unnecessary violence for they lack the subtlety she enjoys and also bring her name into disrepute.
Followers of Novala should beware for sometimes she will deliberately drop them into trouble for the amusement of watching them trying to escape.

Phyloqure is a reclusive god who has little to do with events among mortals. He has a fondness for the growth of civilisation and if approached with respect he will sometimes encourage and advise those who seek his help. He will seldom provide direct answers to questions for he believes that knowledge must be earned if it is to have value. He is usually worshipped by scholars or sages but a few adventurers, often mages, also choose to worship him. |
The miracles he grants are unspectacular but can be useful to those seeking knowledge. Phyloqure is close in alignment to Baldor and Novala and his priests can often use the powers
sponsored by these gods. Phyloqure encourages his followers to be law abiding and thoughtful and strongly disapproves of the use of violence no matter what the circumstances.
Parties choosing to follow Phyloqure should adopt a friendly attitude to all encounters and a low retreat factor. Regular prayer and donations are also expected. Deliberate attacks
against other parties, or against monsters and NPCs will result in an immediate loss of favour as will evil deeds of any kind. Even possessing a weapon will lose favour and as a
result the life expectancy of adventurers who choose to follow Phyloqure is even less than that of those who follow Sundonak!
