Road Trips May 2008 & May 2009

Carson Pass - Minden, NV - Ebbetts Pass

On Memorial Day Weekend in 2008 and in 2009, we went to Minden, a small town in Nevada. Since we visited many of the same places at both trips, we put them together on one site.

In 2008, we took highway 88 across Carson Pass to Minden and then Highway 395 and Highway 4 across Monitor Pass and Ebbetts Pass on the way back. All three highways are designated National Scenic Byways and we took a lot of picture stops along the way.

We also stopped in Markleeville, county seat of California's Amador County in both years. In 2008, we added Grover Hot Springs to the trip and in 2009 we paid a quick visit to the small town Ione, CA.

And now, join us on our trip:

Our first stop was the tiny town if Ione. The town doesn't look like much today,
but its history is really interesting. Unlike other communities in Amador County,
which were founded on gold mining, Ione was a supply center, stage and rail
stop, and agricultural hub.

From there we went right onto California's State Route 88. This is one of our favorite
ways to get across the Sierra Nevada. From an ancient Indian trading road, the Carson
Route has evolved over generations to meet the need of travelers and is today one of the
nation's celebrated Scenic Byways.
