Boat Trip May 2010

San Joaquin - Sacramento - Delta

The California Delta is the largest estuary on the United States' Pacific Coast. It is formed by the confluences of the biggest rivers running through the Central Valley: the San Joaquin, the Sacramento, the Mokelumne and the Calaveras River. Before jointly reaching the San Francisco Bay, these rivers crisscross, forming 200,000 acres of wetlands, sloughs and islands and more than 1,000 miles of waterways.

The delta and its waterways are a popular recreation destination. The warm, breezy summers are popular among water skiers and boaters and even the chilly, foggy winters draw fishermen and hunters.

In May 2010, the family rented a house boat to explore the Delta. The younger folks spent the entire weekend on the Boat and we joined them on Sunday morning.

On Sunday morning, we all met at Paradise Point Marina just outside Stockton.

Soon, we were on our way, with Payton on the steering wheel and Madison in command.

There are countless sloughs and canals and every turn offered a new view - all the way to Mount Diablo.

A lot of poeple live in the delta and life styles range from fancy to - well - alternative.

In the afternoon, we found a nice bay to "drop anchor" and take a break.
Everybody had fun...
...everybody in his or her own way.

We also had a small motor boat for scouting missions.

It wasn't the most powerful boat, but Bill almost made it fligh!

An when we weren't goofing off, we even had a chance to enjoy a beautiful part of nature just half an hour from home!
