Vacation 2010

September 21, Germany

Velten

Oberhavel County

Potsdam is surrounded by forests, lakes and orchards. On Septermber 21, Jutta and Jürgen, Volker's sister and brother-in-law, picked us up to the first of two trips through the countryside.

First, we stopped in Velten at Volker's aunt Gerda and checked out her beautiful flower garden.

The coat of arms of Velten shows a tiled stove. In the early 1900s, the small town used to be Germany's biggest oven-manufacturer with 38 factories, delivering over 100,000 tiles per year. It is only fitting that the town hosts Germany's only Oven Tile Museum.
