Uranometria

Hand Colored Version

1641

Uranometria, the first star atlas showing the entire sky was designed by German cartographer Johann Bayer and first published in 1602.

The original charts were copperplate engravings designed by by German engraver Alexander Mair.

Soon after the original publication, hand colored versions of Mair's engravings were published. The colored charts shown here are from a version of Uranometria published in Augsburg in 1641 and made available by Albion Prints.

There is a huge variet of colored versions, some of them can be seen at newel.com, aradergalleries.com and at atlascoelestis.com
