Star Lore Art German Farmer's Calendar ca. 1400

In medieval Germany, so called farmer's calendar (Bauernkalender in German),were widely popular. They usually showed the signs of the Zodiac and the farm-work associated with that particular part of the year. The calendar below is a simple folded leaflet, showing the Zodiac signs, the amount of daylight and a typical task for each month. Since the tasks are assigned monthly, the zodiac signs do not precisely fit. The leaflet is dated as circa 1400, the author is unknown. The original is owned by the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation in Berlin, Germany and has been published by Wikimedia. Click on the picture for a larger image.
