The Lost Constellations, 2016

Ursa Major

Lisa Bognwagner is an artist originally from Boston, Mass., now living in Tennessee.

She specializes in animal portraits and states that her life's purpose is "to paint animal's souls."

Her diverse portfolio contains two collections relevant to Star Lore:

The Lost Constellations Collection, depicts some of the animals used in now obsolete constellations designed by European astronomers in the 17th and 18th century. In 1922, when the International Astronomical Union settled for a set of 88 official constellations, these interesting creations fell to the wayside.

In two cases (Manis and Hippocampus), Lisa Bohnwagner's paintings could very well be the only artistic renderings of these constellations.

In addition, The Zodiac Collection features some of the Zodiac animals.
