Artists have always been inspired by the night sky. Perhaps the most famous examples of this inspiration are Vincent van Gogh's paintings The Starry Night (above left) and Starry Night Over the Rhône (right). Below is a collection of recent paintings by different artists. Some have been inspired by the night sky as we observe it with our own eyes, others opened a new door in astronomy art, using images taken by large telescopes and interpreting them in an artistic way. This collection does not represent a ranking or valuation of paintings - I simply selected some pictures that in some way "spoke" to me. Many of these images were taken from sites of online art galleries. Please note that this is not a sales pitch and that I am in no way affiliated with any of the galleries or artists cited below.
