The Azure Dragon of the East

The Azure Dragon represents the cardinal direction East and the Spring season.

The Azure Dragon is one of the four Dragon Kings of the Four Seas.

During the Tang Dynasty the rebellious General Shan Xiongxin was seen as the reincarnation of the Azure Dragon's Star.

Later, in the Liao dynasty, it was General He Suwen who was seen as the reincarnation of the Azure Dragon's Star, while his arch enemy, general Xue Rengui, was seen as the reincarnation of the White Tiger's Star.

In 1889, close to the end of the Qing dynasty, the Azure Dragon was shown in the Chinese National Flag (right).
