The Constellations of
Augustin Royer

In 1679, French architect Augustin Royer published a star map that included two creations of his own, both honoring his patron, French King Louis XIV.

One, using stars of Aries was called Lilium, the Lily, referring to the fleur-de-lis, the symbol of French royalty.

The other one, using stars of the constellations Lacerta and Andromeda was called Sceptrum et Manus Iustitiae, which is Latin for Scepter and Hand of Justice.

Both constellations are no longer in use.
