The Pleiades are arguably the star formation with the most recorded star lore.
The star cluster is a prominent sight in winter in the Northern Hemisphere, and is easily visible out to mid-Southern latitudes. Some Greek astronomers considered the Pleiades to be a distinct constellation and they received an extra entry in the first illustrated catalogue of constellations, the Leiden Arathea. Often, myth about the Pleiades are connected to the constellation Taurus to which they belong as well as to neighboring Orion There are so many tales about the Pleiades that it was impossible to put them all on one site.
